I never really liked the idea of fasting. I like food, I don’t like being hungry…it’s really as simple as that. I’ve done it a handful of times as a spiritual practice but have never really looked forward to it – and it’s always been a relatively short time period (1-2 days).
My husband, on the other hand, loves fasting. Which I never really understood. But recently, as I’ve been learning more about health practices in Eastern medicine, my curiosity has grown towards fasting. A couple of weeks ago I watched a documentary titled “The Science of Fasting” and was fascinated by the case studies presented in the documentary. Primarily, I was curious because they had records of people seeing improvements with diseases like eczema, allergies and asthma – issues that I currently have and have been unable to get to the root of, despite supplements, elimination diets, allergy tests and other holistic practices.
So this week, I’ve decided to do a 12-day fast (12 days was the average amount of time people with asthma spent fasting to see improvement). It’s honestly the first time I’ve ever been excited about fasting, and currently I feel hopeful to see results. I’m going to be journaling every day about my experience and compiling it into a blog post at the end of the fast (assuming I make it that long).
Here’s to trying new things! Can’t wait to update you guys soon!
